WOMEN ON THE FRONTIER
 April 18-19, 2015

Photos by Jim & Kathy Cummings

Ever wondered what a woman’s life was like on the frontier. The weekend event Women on the Frontier was started at Fort Boonesborough in 2004 as a means to examine a woman’s life and to acquaint women reenactors with the skills and life chores of a female in the 18th century.

2015 saw a flurry of activity at the fort. From starting a fire with flint and steel, to learning about dyes made from natural substances to the ever popular learning to milk a cow it was a full weekend for participants and visitors alike.

Kristi Heasley a volunteer and Fort Boonesborough Foundation member worked with Fort Manager Bill Farmer in choosing some of the most popular activities that women like to try their hand at.

In addition to the special demonstrations regular fort interpreters were in the cabins giving visitors a closer look at the 18th century.
