WOMEN ON THE FRONTIER
 April 20-21, 2013
Boone’s Fort, Fincastle Co., Virginia

Photos by Elizabeth Chalfant, Larry Ginter and Jon Hagee

The faces have changed over the years of the Women on the Frontier event. But the focus of the event has always remained the same. Give women a place to learn or hone their frontier skills. From beginners and visitors to “old timers” event planner Kristi Heasley sees that there is something for everyone. Whether you haven’t ever started a fire from flint and steel or fired a flintlock rifle there is something new for you to experience. The laundry, spinning, weaving, dying with natural dyes and working in the fort’s garden plot were all experiences for participants and visitors.
