Daniel Boone Visits the Fort

February 14th marked another successful Fireside Chat for Fort Boonesborough and The Fort Boonesborough Foundation. Long time Daniel Boone interpreter Scott New performed in the blockhouse to a full house.

New’s performance is always riveting as he takes his listeners back to the early portions of Daniel Boone’s life. His descriptions of early Kentucky, his family and his life make the 18th Century Daniel Boone come to life before your eyes.

In addition to his work as Daniel Boone for The Kentucky Humanities Council,  New will be a regular face at Fort Booonesborough this season when he begins work at the fort on April 1st.

Daniel Boone was front and center in the block house. It was easy for those attending this Fireside Chat to feel they had slipped back into the 18th century while New performed.

Each week at the Fireside Chats the Fort  Boonesborough Foundation also holds a silent auction. Donated auction items usually range from things like books and prints and gift cards for meals. Because this second chat fell on February 14th - Valentine’s  Day,  Foundation member Donna Jones added a special touch.  She arranged and sent enough fresh flowers to fill all of the tables. Each centerpiece was auctioned to the highest bidder. Besides raising money for the foundation it lent as especially festive air to the evening.
